Seitán
Seitán can be pretty tasteless and often after first trying it, you won't want to eat it again. This all depends on how you prepare it, and I've found that after years of trying different methods, this is by far the best and produces a really tasty substitute for meat-craving vegetarians.
Seitán Ingredients:
- 250g lump of seitán (buy this at your nearest Fair Trade Shop or health food shop)
- Vegetarian Worcester Sauce
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- 2 teaspoons of olive oil
Seitán Steps:
- Slice the seitán into slices about 1cm thick (you should get 5 or 6 slices from each 300g lump of seitán)
- Lay slices on a plate and cover both sides with a few dashes of worcester sauce, a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of black pepper
- Leave for 20 minutes for flavour to develop
- Heat griddle over high heat and add the olive oil
- Place the seitán slices on the griddle
- Cook for 8 minutes, turning every couple of minutes
- Serve with mashed potatoes, vegetarian gravy and peas and carrots for a Sunday lunchtime treat
